to measure with stitch scale:

Fine-gauge: 40 stitches and 60 rows (green stitch scale)

Standard-gauge: 40 stitches and 60 rows (green stitch scale)

Mid-Gauge: 30 stitches and 40 rows (yellow stitch scale)

Bulky/Chunky: 20 stitches and 30 rows (blue stitch scale)

Textile industry is using different types units of measure.

Nm (normal metric): 1,000m/1,000g:

2/16 NM = 800m/100g - suitable for standard gauge machine and can knit with single end

2/30 NM = 1,500m/100g-suitable for fine gauge machine and can knit with single end
